Yoga and Cancer Care: Research, Practice, and Everyday Tools for Well-Being

Discover how yoga can support well-being during and after cancer treatment. This introductory session will explore the role of yoga and yoga therapy in cancer care, current research on their benefits, and practical ways to use breathing, movement, relaxation, and mindfulness practices to support physical and emotional health. Participants will also experience a gentle guided practice and learn simple tools that can be incorporated into everyday life.
Smitha Mallaiah, PhD(c), C-IAYT

Smitha Mallaiah is a yoga researcher and clinical yoga therapist in the Integrative Medicine Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
With over two decades of experience, she specializes in cancer care and leads the first yoga therapy clinic in the Texas Medical Center, supporting both inpatient and outpatient cancer populations.
Smitha’s clinical work is closely integrated with research, and she has contributed to numerous studies, funding initiatives, publications, and book chapters.
