Tai chi and qigong are forms of mind-body exercise and meditation that may help with symptoms of cancer and side effects of treatments.
Safety and precautions
These practices are generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. Tai chi and qigong movements are low impact, putting minimal stress on muscles and joints. Because tai chi involves very little risk and is associated with improved cancer symptoms and quality of life, many practitioners are comfortable recommending it for people with cancer.
A few studies found worse depression among people with breast cancer practicing tai chi.1Chen YW, Hunt MA, Campbell KL, Peill K, Reid WD.
