“Cultivating Hope” with Liz Lescault looks to bring more joy and optimism into our lives. During the session we will share some of our hopes and dreams and explore some ways of capturing moments of pleasure and enjoyment in our lives.

We will engage meditation, movement, visualization, and sharing our stories as ways to help us embrace hope and optimism.

Slam poetry began in Chicago’s bars and coffeehouses in the late 1980s. This phenomenal blend of spoken and written word turns every willing soul into a poet while providing relief from the stresses of the day. Master teaching artist Gayle Danley has shared her down-on-the-floor style of performance poetry all over the country in classrooms, lecture halls, theatres, and even on CBS’s 60 minutes.

Join her for much laughter, emotion, comfort, understanding, and instruction in the art of slam poetry. Her 4-step process has been tried in the fire and proven to be an effective antidote to the blues of the day and the isolation that threatens to drive us mad!

Dr. Lise Alschuler and Karolyn Gazella, co-authors of  The Definitive Guide to Thriving After Cancer and The Definitive Guide to Cancer, will introduce you to ways to reduce the risk of cancer and cancer recurrence by optimizing the health of 5 key pathways: immunity, inflammation, insulin regulation, detoxification, and hormonal balance.

Learn which lifestyle strategies — such as diet, mind/body practices, physical activity, and key supplements — can transform your body into one that cancer doesn’t like.

Meet others who have a common bond in being treated years, even decades, earlier. Celebrate survivorship and learn about the late effects of treatment from world-renowned speakers. Make new friends, connect with those you may have “met” (but maybe not in person), and learn how to advocate for yourself in the survivorship world.

Medical experts will present important information about common and serious late effects that survivors deal with–such as pulmonary and cardiac disease, secondary cancers, and radiation fibrosis; psychosocial issues of being long-term cancer survivors; and ways in which you can be involved in cancer survivorship advocacy.
